How it works

Good to know

  • The video is skipped. The picture is never decoded or re-encoded, so the work is far quicker than a full video conversion.
  • One sound track. If a file carries several sound tracks — a second language, a commentary — only the main one is converted. They are never mixed together.
  • No sound, no MP3. A silent video with no sound track is reported as such instead of producing an empty file.

Questions & limits

Is my video uploaded?
No. The file is read by your browser in this tab, and only the parts holding the sound are used. No file, file name or content is sent anywhere.
Does the whole video have to be processed?
No. The video track is discarded without being decoded, so the work only covers the sound. That is why it is much faster than a video conversion.
Why does it say my video has no usable sound?
The file either carries no sound track at all, or its audio codec cannot be decoded by this browser. Browsers differ, so Chrome, Edge or Safari may succeed where another fails.
What about videos with two languages?
Only the main sound track is converted. Extra tracks are left out rather than mixed in, so the MP3 stays clean.
What are the limits?
Up to 100 MiB per file and 10 minutes of audio, checked before any conversion starts. YouTube links and other web addresses are not supported — this tool only works on files on your device.
