How it works

What changes

  • Transparency. JPG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas are filled with white. Choose PNG to keep them.
  • Metadata. The output is re-encoded from pixels, so EXIF data and the embedded colour profile are not carried over.
  • Animated WebP. You get the first frame only, and the page says so before you convert.

Questions & limits

Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is decoded and re-encoded by your browser in this tab. No file name, image data or diagnostic information is sent anywhere.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with white. If you need the transparency, choose PNG as the output format.
Can it convert an animated WebP?
It converts the first frame and tells you so before converting, because JPG and PNG output here is a single still image. The animation is not preserved.
Will it look exactly the same?
JPG is lossy, so at lower quality you may see artefacts, especially in flat colours and text. Raise the quality slider, or choose PNG for a lossless copy.
Why does it say my file is not WebP?
The file's own bytes are checked, not its name. A JPEG, PNG, AVIF or HEIC renamed to .webp is rejected with an explanation instead of being converted.
What are the limits?
Up to 20.00 MB per file and 40 megapixels of output. Very large images depend on your device's memory, because all the work happens on it.
