How it works

What changes

  • Quality. MP3 is lossy. 192 kbps is a good default; 320 kbps is larger but closer to the original.
  • Channels and sample rate. The result panel shows the channel count and sample rate of the source WAV. The MP3 encoder may resample or downmix the audio, so the MP3 itself can differ.
  • Tags. The MP3 is written fresh from the audio, so tags and markers in the WAV are not carried over.

Is my recording uploaded?
No. The WAV is read, decoded and encoded by your browser in this tab. No file, file name or content is sent anywhere.
Which WAV files work?
Standard PCM WAV files — 8, 16, 24 and 32-bit integer as well as 32-bit float — at the usual sample rates. If a file uses an unusual compressed codec inside the WAV container, you get a clear message instead of a broken MP3.
Which bitrate should I pick?
192 kbps is a good balance for speech and music. Pick 128 kbps for the smallest file, or 320 kbps for the most detail. A higher bitrate cannot restore quality the source never had.
What are the limits?
Up to 100 MiB per file and 10 minutes of audio. Both are checked before any conversion starts, and the work stops if it runs past 10 minutes.
Can I cancel?
Yes. Cancel discards the result and stops the decoder and the MP3 encoder. Reset clears the file from this tab's memory.
